Hawaiian Tropic - Island Glow Daily Moisturizer

Filed under: Sunless Tanners — suz at 9:08 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

Sick.  Disgusting.  Putrid.  Offensive.  Nasty.  These are all words I would use to discribe this self tanner.  Before I purchased, I put a tiny squirt on and thought it smelled absolutely wonderful.  After you apply it to your whole body though, you will be ill.  The overwhelming scent will make you gag.  Maybe it smells better than some self-tanners, but the smell is REALLY strong and it doesn’t smell even close to really good.  If someone had applied this in the morning and you came near them, you would DEFINITELY know that they had this on, in a bad way.  I have NEVER been and am not, sensitive to scents.  But, after using for 3 days, I promptly brought mine back.  Why would someone ever use this product when there are tons of products out there that not only have better results but are better smelling too (read: Coppertone Endless Summer Moisturizing Lotion).  Another thing I don’t like about this product is how ghastly the color is.  It turned my skin a VERY, VERY light brown and I applied it one more time hoping for a darker tan.  I did not get tan, I got the obvious fake self-tanner look of orange!  And it pooled in drier places unlike any other self tanner I have ever used.  If a customer at work asked me which tanner to get, I would strongly suggest something else!  If you are looking for a product with actual noticeable results, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Jergens Natural Glow - Face/Body

Filed under: Sunless Tanners — suz at 8:56 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007

AMAZING!!!  I am totally in love!  I have used SO many self tanners and I always had to use them at night because they smelled so gross.  It would make my bed and sheets smell disgusting.  My husband HATED it!  But not anymore.  With Jergens Natural Glow, I can choose to put it on before bed OR during the day.  I usually put it on in the morning after my shower which I absolutely cannot believe.  I am so excited!  I NEVER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO WEAR A TANNER DURING THE DAY BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS SMELLED SO NASTY!  The odor is completely inoffensive.  I know a lot of people tried Natural Glow when it first came on the market and couldn’t stand the strong odor.  Well, no more!  They have totally reformulated this tanner with a great new scent.  When you purchase this item, make sure you get a newer tube because there are still some of the old ones with the original strong scent being sold- I actually happened to buy one last week!  I returned it and made sure to purchase it at a busier store.  A busier store would be more likely to have sold through the old Jergens tanners and would be more likely to have replenished their sold tanner with the newer formula.  The face version smells different than the body version.  The body version has a scent that I would describe as pleasant and cherry-like.  The face version smells sweeter, almost like toffee or carmel, and I am sure that many will like it.  I really love how the face version has spf 20 and is non-comedogenic (doesn’t clog pores)!  I wear it under foundation and it wears very well and doesn’t make my face overly greasy.  I have been using the medium and the medium/tan even though I am very, very fair.  These colors give you a nice golden, extremely natural looking tan.  I don’t recommend the fair version of the Natural Glow becaue I feel like it does not give you any color (and like I said I am super fair, so if it doesn’t give me much color…)  I also like how the darker colors don’t make you look yellow or orange, something that has happened with other tanners.  I have no streaks at all b/c each application only adds a subtle amount of color.  It also makes my skin tone better, moisturizes, and it smells ridiculously better than any other sunless tanner I have tried (and believe me when I say, I have tried A LOT!).  If your skin reacts differently to this stuff and it doesn’t smell that good, don’t freak!  Just wait about an hour and the smell will almost completely vanish.

Oh my gosh……I am in love!!!!

After trying every single brand of eyeshadows in the drugstore (I swear that I have) and finding that NONE had the kind of color and wearability that I was wanting, I decided to branch out a bit. I went to Ulta and I tried their brand of eyeshadow as I had heard positive reviews about it before. I was not disappointed! These shadows all contained such pigment, that really lasted ALL day long. They didn’t fade, or flake, or crease. I was and am SO excited. I am psyched to finally find my perfect shadow. The colors are amazing, such a range from subtle to exotic! And something else that makes these shadows incredible is the price! They are the price of a drugstore shadow for 10 times the quality. These are SO awesome, you gotta check them out!!!

Decisions, Decisions

Filed under: Uncategorized — suz at 11:45 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2006

So I haven’t written in awhile…..I’ve been super busy. I’ve seriously been thinking about dropping out of college and going to esthetician school. Isn’t that crazy?! It seriously is the one thing that I am truly passionate about. Beauty, fashion, skincare, cosmetics…….But I had a moment of clarity today. I mean I already have completed 75 hours in college which means I am more than halfway there, I just need to stick it out. My mom made a good point when she said, “if college was easy, everyone would do it.” Which is sorta true. I just gotta keep on chugging. Currently my major is marketing. While it isn’t my passion like cosmetics, I know a college degree is something that I will be happy to have later down the road. I just feel like I have been in school so long…..like I’m just going in circles and not making any progress towards my goal: graduation. I REALLY wish that a college near me offered fashion merchandising or design near me. I would LOVE that soooooo much. My sister has a friend who got her degree in some kind of fashion thing and now she is the buyer for a department in dillard’s. How cool is that?! I think being a buyer would be awesome. Marketing is kinda close to that, right?

Oil Absorbing Sheets

Filed under: Skincare — suz at 4:13 pm on Monday, September 18, 2006

These are the best!!! No longer do you have to keep layering more and more powder throughout the day, the end result being a cakey looking face with the applicator in your pressed powder looking seriously gross. With these little papers, they take off the oil. All the oil. Completely. Then if you want to, you can apply powder and believe me, applying powder to a clean, non oily face works so much better than powder applied over oil. Update: I like Walgreen’s “Perfection” brand oil absorbing sheets a lot better. They are bigger and the package they come isn’t crappy like Clean and Clear’s.

Aveeno Foaming Cleanser-Ultra Calming

Filed under: Skincare — suz at 9:03 pm on Sunday, August 6, 2006

Perfection. I have been using this face wash for since it came out, and I absolutely love it. It removes makeup, takes off dirt and oil, rinses cleanly, and it still leaves your skin soft and not tight and dry. I wholeheartedly recommend this amazing product. Plus, if your skin is sensitive, it is SO gentle. It is color free, fragrance free, and non-comodegenic. When you pump it out, it comes out as a foam. Very cool. My 25 year old sister and 54 year old mom were looking for something gentle yet effective, I recomended this and now they love it too!

Basis Cleaner Clean Face Wash

Filed under: Skincare — suz at 7:39 pm on Monday, July 10, 2006

I bought this cleanser today b/c of the reviews on here. I thought I was in for a treat, but I really hate this product. I have combo/acne prone skin but this totally dried it out, so much so that it hurt to smile. I’m taking it back, right away.

RECAP: Great…..if you want your face to be dry as a desert. YUCK!

Revlon Colorstay Concealer

Filed under: Concealer — suz at 7:30 pm on Monday, July 10, 2006

I decided to try this concealer because I was already using Revlon Colorstay foundation and I really loved it. I have combo skin (sometimes dry ALL over and sometimes oily ALL over) and sources I talked to told me that this concealer has having medium to heavy coverage and that definitely intrested me. Well, I got it home and I tried it. Then I tried it again. Then I tried layering it. It gave what I felt was very light coverage!! I was very unhappy with this product and promptly returned it.

RECAP: Don’t bother trying this one!

Dove Beauty Bar - Sensitive Skin

Filed under: Skincare — suz at 10:53 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2006

First you should know that I have weird skin on my face. Sometimes it is completely oily, sometimes it is completely dry. No matter what though, I get pimples. I had been abusing the skin on my face trying to no avail to treat the pimples on my face. I used harsh cleansers, astringents, and products like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. For some reason I got this wild idea to try calming my face down and being really gentle to my skin by using Dove soap for sensitive skin.

I actually was already using this soap for the sensitive skin on my body. My body can be dry and really itchy. Even when my skin is moisturized, I would have periods where I would be super itchy. And this soap helped. It is very gentle, but unfortunately I didn’t find it to be very moisturizing.

If you look at any site that rates products you will find that a lot of people say that this soap has a fragrance, that it really isn’t fragrance free like the box says. These people are very annoying. The box says FRAGRANCE FREE, meaning that the soap manufacturer did not ADD an additional fragrance to this product. If you look at the ingredients you can see, that in fact, fragrance is not listed. The materials to make the soap have a smell though!!! The scent this soap has is of the materials, not of a perfume. That is why there is two Dove soaps-sensitive skin and unscented. Dove Fragrance Free has a natural, pleasant odor. Dove Unscented has added chemicals to mask those scents.

Anyways, being gentle to my face with this soap normalized it! I didn’t use it long term though. It is good to use every once in awhile when your skin is aggravated but I don’t really like using bar soap on my face. I feel like the bar soap produces a buildup on my skin and after awhile the cleanser just doesn’t work as well. I still would use it in the shower everyday for my body during the summer, or at least when my skin isn’t really dry.

Neutrogena Rapid Clear Oil Control Foaming Cleanser

Filed under: Skincare — suz at 10:53 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2006

One word, “AMAZING”!!!! This cleanser is a new staple in my bathroom! I absolutely love how this cleanser takes all the makeup and gunk off your face yet it still leaves it smooth and soft. It does all this AND it controls even the most oily of faces! I have high shine skin. I do my makeup in the morning: long-wearing foundation, lots of powder and still my skin starts to get shiny only about 2 hours later!! With this cleanser, I can wear it to work ALL day long, and my face stays considerably less oily. Before, I would return home from work with my makeup practically melting off my face. It was really disgusting. I would have to blot my skin at least 2 times and apply powder throughout the day but this cleanser leaves my skin matte for a much longer time……hours longer. This product is so amazing. This is the first oil controlling cleanser that actually controls oil!! This cleanser has a light, fresh, citrus scent which I love. Bravo Neutrogena - as long as you continue making it, I will most definitely continue buying it!!

UPDATE: I still love this cleanser but after a few weeks I found using it twice a day was a just a little bit drying for use in the winter. Now I either, use this cleanser in the morning before makeup and something different at night or I use it twice a day in the summer when my skin is greasiest.

RECAP: LOVE IT!
